Important changes to .ru domains

We’re sorry to share some disappointing news about .ru domains.

From 1 September 2026, Russia’s domain registry requires every owner of a .ru domain to verify their identity through Gosuslugi (the Russian government services portal), which in practice is only available to Russian residents. Owners who cannot do this must instead pay a Russian registrar for a “Trusted Administrator” service — 10,500 ₽ per domain to connect for one year and 14,500 ₽ for each subsequent annual renewal — to keep the domain on their behalf.

This is the registry’s decision, not ours, and unfortunately there is nothing we can do to change it.

New registrations

Because of these rules, we can no longer accept new .ru registrations. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

If you already own a .ru domain with us

To make sure you keep control, we recommend moving it into your own Reg.ru account:

  1. Create a free account at Reg.ru.
  2. Email us at ru@name.am with your Reg.ru login, and we’ll transfer full control of your domain to your account.
  3. From there you can choose: verify via Gosuslugi (if you’re a Russian resident), buy Reg.ru’s “Trusted Administrator” service (10,500 ₽ / 14,500 ₽ renewal, per domain), or let the domain expire.

Please arrange this before 1 September 2026 to avoid disruption.

Questions? Contact ru@name.am — we’re sorry again; this is genuinely out of our hands.
